Mithé Espelt collectibles
It was in the early 1950s, when Vallauris ceramics were at the height of fashion, that the avant-garde artist Mithé Espelt developed her discreetly luxurious creations. Working in her native South of France, where a passion for ceramics was deeply ingrained in her, she developed her own unique colours and palette of enamels.
This artist, who remained very discreet until the end of her life, was interested in revisiting everyday feminine objects, such as mirrors, boxes and jewellery, all designed as small works of art.
Mithé Espelt led a fascinating life, meeting and being influenced by such extraordinary figures as Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Line Vautrin, Brigitte Bardot, Louise de Vilmorin and ‘Linou’, her great friend the ceramist Valentine Schlegel, who died in 2021.
Collector Square is the first site to have brought together so many Mithé Espelt creations, including boxes, necklaces, mirrors and lamps in gold- and coloured-enamel ceramic, all authenticated by Antoine Candau, a specialist in her works and the author of the monograph dedicated to her.
