Photograph of the NASA's Columbia space shuttle launch, the 20th October 1995. Vintage chromogenic print on "Kodak" paper.
The American space shuttle program has inspired millions of people around the world during 30 years (between 1981 and 2011). "Space Shuttle" has changed the way of seeing the world and our universe. Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Endeavour, Atlantis are names of spacecraft forever engraved in the memory of the space conquest. Space shuttles are the direct legacy of Apollo flights. They ensured the transition to a permanent occupation of the low Earth orbit while waiting for the return of Man on the Moon.
The space shuttle allowed the existence and maintenance in Earth orbit of the famous Hubble telescope that inspired things to the general public. It remains forever in Space History as the largest, most complex and most ambitious space vehicle of Humanity. She is a true American icon who has nurtured the imagination of a generation.
