Rare large photograph of the NASA's Apollo 11 Mission showing the lunar module "Eagle" living the Moon in front of a crescent of the Earth taken from the lunar orbit the 21th July 1969. Large vintage chromogenic print mounted tightly on cardboard.
After a walk on the Moon of only 2H30 and a few hours of sleep aboard Eagle, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin join astronaut Mickaël collins aboard the command ship "Columbia". The theatre of human History has never had such extraordinary sets and actors.
In the foreground, two humans have just accomplished, in their strange machine, the most fabulous feat of all time. In the background, the lunar horizon sees, by an incredible coincidence, the rise of the Earth and its 3.5 billion inhabitants, of which 500 million have just followed the event live on the five continents. Invisible behind the lens, immortalizing the scene with his camera Hasselblad, Michael collins who was for a few hours, in orbit around the hidden face of the Moon, the most isolated and lonely human being in all human history.
NASA’s Apollo 11 mission’s large format photographs are rare. They have been produced in order to be exposed or to be given to important personalities, particularly to the leaders of NASA’s "contractors" (companies under contract with NASA who were responsible for developing particular aspects of the American space program).
These large-format photographs were thus often presented in the premises of directorates or personalities. Their iconic status made them true trophies of war: the brilliant success of the American space conquest is inscribed in the marble of the History of Humanity.
From the mid-1970s, these photographs were naturally set aside and forgotten. Very few have been preserved until now. They subsequently became one of the most significant testimonies of the most important moment in the History of the human space conquest: Man’s first step on the Moon.
