HAAS, rebaptisée en 1895, est reconnue dans les années 1920 comme l'une des plus prestigieuses manufactures genevoises avec Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin et Baume & Mercier. In the same year, Haas launched a highly innovative pocket watch with a movement that was wound by opening and closing of the cover. This mechanism was further developed and patented and presented at the 1893 Chicago World Exhibition. They also took a special interest in chronometers and entered watches into competition at the Geneva Observatory, where one of its chronometers won with 878.8 points..Their success and notoriety producing complicated watches led the company to open a store on Fifth Avenue in New York City in the 1920s. However, the fortune of the company weakened in the Great Depression and the company went under in the 1930s..The presently offered minute repeating wristwatch is immediately reminiscent of a Patek Philippe minute repeater and Haas Neveux was equally respected, although lesser known at the time, within the American market. The barrel shape of the watch with classic Breguet numerals make for a look that epitomizes 1930s design. The rarity of Haas Neveux repeating wristwatches is extreme and this is the only known example in white metal. Made shortly before the company went bankrupt, this example represents the end of an era of a watchmaking company that was loved for its spirit of ingenuity, highly complicated watches, and understated elegant design.
