A secret about... Cartier

A crocodile at 13 rue de la Paix in Paris! The story is as wonderful as it is remarkable, and has been the stuff of legend in the corridors of the House of Cartier for forty years.

In 1975 the actress, Maria Félix apparently entered the “jeweller of kings” and the “king of jewellers” escorted by none other than a baby crocodile. The Mexican actress, known as “La Dona” wanted to order a necklace that perfectly replicated her pet reptile. A few months later, Cartier’s workshops delivered the spectacular hinged, convertible Crocodile necklace in gold, set with diamonds, emeralds and pear diamonds. This exceptional piece was exhibited at the Grand Palais in 2014, and the same piece also inspired the design of the collection La Dona, especially its reptilian links.
