W for Winding

Unlike quartz watches, which work by using a battery, mechanical watches need winding: by hand, by turning the crown, or automatically by moving your wrist. No matter how you do it, winding a watch is essential to making it work.

Collector Square recommends that watches that need manual wounding should be wound daily, winding the watch twelve or so times before placing it on your bedside table each night.
