The history of Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox

Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox watches

The Memovox or "voice of memory" is one of the most iconic watches by Jaeger-LeCoultre. Its case has the specificity of featuring a built-in alarm that is totally independent from the movement. Created in 1950, it was marketed for the first time in 1951. Since then, it has been available in a wide range of styles and materials. It is nevertheless easily recognisable thanks to its unique design:

  • a rather thick case with two crowns (one for setting the time at 2 o'clock and the other to activate the alarm at 4 o'clock)
  • a central part that is sometimes in a different colour from the rest of the dial.
  • rather basic on the first models, the alarm has become crystal clear over time.
The Memovox features a really complex and very original movement that makes it extremely popular with watch collectors.
