History of the Rolex Explorer watch
In the 1950s, with the creation of its first professional watches, Rolex set out to promote adventurers and sports expeditions. With the Explorer I watch, Rolex became the official sponsor of a successful Everest expedition: a Rolex Explorer watch was worn by Sherpa Tenzing Norgay during the expedition in 1953.
Style of the Rolex Explorer watch
The Rolex Explorer is a legendary sports timepiece. It stands out on account of its refined yet well-defined style: the black dial, the large inverted triangle at 12 o’clock, the numbers 3/6/9, the round case with a screw-down crown and screwed caseback. Overall, there are around 15 Explorer references. The Explorer is a Rolex must-have, together with the Submariner, the Oyster Perpetual and the Sea Dweller.
Value of the Rolex Explorer
Rolex Explorer watches are a must when it comes to luxury watches on the second-hand market. According to LuxPrice-Index, 5% in volume of Rolex watches sold at auctions are Rolex Explorer watches.
