Later he served in the U.S. surveyor-general of.public land office before being appointed as assistant engineer.under Lieutenant Robert E. Lee. Kayser surveyed the Mississippi.River and reported on the harbor improvement project to Lee. He.acted as a government surveyor until 1839, when he was selected to.serve as the first city engineer for the city of St. Louis. He held.this position off and on until 1857. Peyrouton de Ladebat, Commander of the French Sloop of War Cher in Acknowledgment of His Valuable Services to the British Ship Cadzow Forest of Glasgow When Stranded at Rodriques Island, 24th April 1880, white enamel dial, Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, engine-turned circular case, hinged back, case stamped HW possibly for Henry Webb and with London date letter for 1880, dial and movement signed by maker.53.5 diam.
