The case shows light wear and light surface scuffs throughout, however is generally in nice condition. The gold stamp to the band near 10 o'clock is very deep and nice. The inside of the back is stamped 4554027. The bracelet is not signed, but is in nice condition.

A fine and rare 14K gold World Time wristwatch.Signed Agassiz, no. 307965, circa 1940.With nickel-finished lever movement, 17 jewels, bimetallic compensation balance, the silvered matte dial with black enamel baton and Roman numerals, outer revolving ring depicting the diurnal and nocturnal hours on silvered and black background, the circular case with revolving bezel engraved with the names of 31 cities in the world, teardrop lugs, snap on back, case and movement signed and numbered.30 mm. diam..Pre-Lot Text.Watches with World Time indication.Since the late 19th century, when society enjoyed a continuously increasing mobility, watchmakers were challenged to invent new mechanisms to reflect the fact that the globe is divided up into 24 time zones, each representing 15 degrees of longitude starting from the Greenwich Meridian. To make use of this feature, the bezel is first rotated so that a location in the same time zone as the clock is at 12 o'clock. When the local time is set on the main dial, the outer day/night ring can be used to tell the time at any of the locations engraved on the bezel. This ingenious mechanism has been invented and patented by Louis Cottier, a celebrated watchmaker from Geneva who has worked closely with Geneva's most renowned watch manufacturers such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, Vacheron Constantin and Agassiz for example.
