Signed Ralph Gout, London, No. 139, third quarter 18th century;The bell top case decorated all over with Chinoiserie figures and buildings, raised on gilt bun feet with shaped skirt between, with chamfered corners and sides pierced with sound frets, bud finials and carrying handle to the top, the 8-inch arched dial with foliate scroll spandrels, silvered roman and arabic chapter ring enclosing date aperture and signature plaque in the matted center, strike/silent ring above, the triple fusee movement with verge escapement, pendulum now with thread suspension, striking the hours, chiming the quarters on eight bells with eight hammers, pull wind to alarm train on numbered back plate engraved with leafy scrolls. 24 in.
