Furthermore the silver dial has turned a superbly original and harmonious vanilla tone, with darker areas on the periphery. Rendering this timepiece even more unique and desirable is the Tiffany & Co signature on the dial. Even more extraordinary is the fact that the retailer’s name is prominently displayed above the Patek Philippe brand name and not on the lower part of the dial as is more typically seen.;Of the 58 examples of the yellow gold reference 2552 known, only four have a Tiffany & Co. signature on the dial but the present lot, fresh to the market, is the only one known with the retailer's name above Patek Philippe, making it truly unique.;The yellow gold case is in overall excellent condition and has crisp visible hallmarks. It houses Patek Philippe’s superb automatic caliber 12-600 which is beautifully hand decorated and stamped with the Geneva seal, featuring a gold guilloché rotor and Patek Philippe’s signature Gyromax balance. Furthermore, the movement is accordingly stamped ‘HOX,’ the correct import mark for the American market.;The Tiffany & Co. signed bracelet adds a dash of dazzle to an already enticing watch.

The movement itself is quasi mythical, as the automatic cal 12-600AT is Patek Philippe’s first automatic movement and considered by many as the finest self-winding movement ever designed by any manufacturer in history.;Predominantly cased in yellow or pink gold, examples in white metal are rare and few. To find a model cased in white gold with a gloriously untouched black lacquer dial and full diamond indexes is the equivalent of a horological unicorn. To date, we are not aware of any other model with this dial and case metal combination, making the present lot most probably unique.;This watch, having resided in one of the world’s most important and prestigious private collections, has remained in superb all original condition and is presented to the auction market for the first time. The movement is running at the time of cataloguing, however it may require service soon. The dial is clean with some weakness to the signature, particularly the 'E' of Philippe. As noted in the catalogue, the case has a later Florentine-style engraving to the bezel and lugs, as well as the recess on the PP crown. Nonetheless, the case is well defined, with legible goldmarks to the sides of two lugs.
