The history of Gucci Bamboo

Gucci Bamboo bags

The Bamboo bag was created in 1947 in Gucci’s Florence workshops and has an unusual back story.

It was designed during a period of rationing of raw materials, so bamboo was used to make the handle to compensate for the lack of leather. Although the original shape of this bag was fairly classic, the handle gave it a touch of the exotic that attracted women at the time.

Its shape has changed over time, but the bamboo handle remains as an emblem of this icon from the house of Gucci.
