These watches were designed for a young and avant-garde female clientele and were characterized by their large bracelets, forming a cone when worn, and the unusual dial materials..Similar models are illustrated in Montres et Merveilles de Piaget by F. Cologni, G. Negretti & F. Nencini, pp. 130, 133 and 139..Piaget.Founded in 1874 by Georges Piaget in La Côte-aux-Fées, Switzerland, the company opened its first showroom at 40, rue du Rhône, Geneva, in 1959. Piaget rapidly became the specialist for the world's thinnest watches and the unique style of cases and bracelets in 18K gold or platinum, the only case materials the firm allows to enter its workshops. The company is a pioneer in the realm of watches embellished with gemstones, using lapis lazuli, coral, mother-of-pearl, tiger's eye and onyx in an amazing symphony of dials which appeal to customers increasingly eager for colour and variety.
