The 5514 has now overtaken other COMEX references as the most sought after, it is the watch to have for any serious Rolex collector.;The Submariner reference 5514 was specifically developed by Rolex for Compagnie Maritime d’Expertise or “COMEX”, a specialist diving company within the oil industry. Watches were issued to their specialist divers with commonly the dial and caseback watch marked COMEX. The outside caseback is further engraved with the COMEX issue number. A closer look shows two small holes in the caseback, these holes served to fix the back while it was being engraved with the issue number and text.;A special gas escape valve was fitted to their cases, designed to release built-up pressure from the case during a diver's resurfacing and decompression. Overall in very good condition, movement running while cataloguing. Original dial with some refilled tritium indexes, hands most probably replaced after a service at Rolex. Oyster lock bracelet, case with scuffs from wearing, a small dent to the band. Serial No. 5230216. Very attractive and collectable model retaining a nicely aged patina.

Boîtier en acier avec valve à hélium sur le côté, verre bombé plexi, cadran noir mat portant le logo de la COMEX, index et aiguilles luminescents, trotteuse centrale, lunette tournante noire calibrée pour 60 unités, fond et couronne vissés, le fond étant gravé « ROLEX COMEX 761 », sur bracelet Rolex « Oyster » en acier. Mouvement à remontage automatique, calibre 1520. Boîtier, cadran et mouvement signés. Diamètre: 40 mm. La référence 5514 est parmi les plus rares de tous les modèles Submariner. Selon la littérature, seuls environ 150 exemplaires ont été fabriqués pour et vendus exclusivement à la COMEX.
