The history of Rolex Air King

Watches Rolex Air King

In the 1920s, a new generation of adventurers, sportsmen and lovers of speed became passionately involved with cars, flying, skiing, sailing and outdoor activities. The wristwatch flourished alongside the appetite for innovation, technology, and sporty chic.

The major problem with watches of the era was the vulnerability of the crown, allowing dust and water to penetrate beneath the dial. In 1926, Rolex created the world’s first waterproof casing, featuring a revolutionary crown that was resistant to changes in temperature and to dust. The “Oyster” collection (so called to highlight its water resistance) that Rolex created became famous and was featured in many great sailing expeditions.

The Oyster model then evolved into a range, and the “Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air King” is one of the most classically perfect examples of its illustrious line. The Air King, which has been in production for over fifty years, is a discreet and timeless watch and the elegant diameter of its case appeals to connoisseurs of the genre and to men and women alike.
